I am running
for City Clerk because last November 2, I took a vacation
day to watch the polls. While stationed in Los Angeles watching
the polling process, it was painfully apparent that the precinct
had too few poll workers. What good is a poll watcher when
there aren't enough poll workers? I volunteered and was sworn
in as a poll worker in Los Angeles. As I helped voters sign
in, updated the lists, counted the ballots, and sealed the
box, I realized how important volunteers are to the election
process. I have worked hard in every pursuit I have undertaken,
and become more and more politically active. The City Clerk
performs duties that I do as a Division Chief, filing legal
notices, overseeing bid openings, issuing permits, preparing
agendas for state boards and being aware of the Brown Act.
Five years in Planning at the City of Santa Monica provided
me with a good understanding of municipal coordination. Six
years on the Design Review Board in Glendale allowed me to
become intimately familiar with Glendale, the city's flavor
and neighborhood concerns.
My qualifications
are broad, but so is this position. As Division Chief I have
been effective at conducting community meetings, creating
compromise, and responding to public inquiries. I have prepared
and kept to budgets that are in the millions. My effectiveness
is measurable; my understanding of Glendale is comprehensive.
I have fresh ideas to implement. I would like to improve upon
the advances already begun on the website.
If elected
I would strive to:
- Strengthen
the office of the City Clerk by making archival documents
and forms available to download from the web and setting
up online forms and payment submission;
- Create
a Film commission of citizens, merchants and media to create
guidelines and opportunities for filming within the City;
- Improve
voter turn out, provide assistance to volunteers, and provide
training for new voters.
I
would be honored to have your vote on April 5, 2005.
Thank you!

The
Difference is Experience
15
years working in the public sector, managing people, budgets,
and schedules; President of the Southern California Chapter
of the American Society of Landscape Architects, 2002; serving
on many charitable and professional boards; Glendale resident
for over 10 years.
The Difference is Community
Commitment
Design Review Board Member, 6 years, (1996-2002); member of
Sign Ordinance Committee, Fence Ordinance Committee and Zoning
Code Revision Committee.
The Difference is Character
For six years as a member of the Glendale Design Review Board,
I made impartial decisions on many projects. These decisions
were based upon city codes, community input and how the project
best fit into Glendale. Now serving as Vice Chair of the state
of California’s Landscape Architect’s Technical
Committee, I am called on to make fair and balanced decisions
on the actions of other Landscape Architects.
